CEO's Update December 2017
2017 was very a productive year for Energy Pipelines CRC research with a record cash spend of over $2.1 million on contracted research. These research projects continue to deliver beyond contracted expectations with key achievements including the completion of 15 projects during the calendar year, bringing the overall completion total to 78 projects since the CRC started in 2010. There are currently 22 active research projects and over 30 research reports were released during 2017.
The Energy Pipelines CRC is a noted example of what industry led research can achieve through direct application as well as informing Standards. The impact of the Energy Pipelines CRC is far reaching and will have positive implications for the future of the Australian pipeline industry.
It is also excellent to see during 2017 that seventeen PhD Students worked with the Energy Pipelines CRC with ten graduating during the year. These PhD students through a mixture of academic supervision and industry mentorship, provide a well rounded graduate. Many of these graduates have gone onto positions either in the Australian pipeline industry or have continued research positions related to the Energy Pipelines CRC.
I have been particularly pleased at the number of key research outcomes which have been delivered directly to industry, and also presented on the international stage at events such as the 2017 JTM, held in Colorado Springs, USA.
During 2018 we will continue to provide the quality industry led research outcomes while also continuing with our work in establishing the Future Fuels CRC. I look forward to provide you with exciting news from both organisations throughout 2018.
A CRC cannot achieve anything without the input and dedication of many people. Thank you to all of you who work so hard to make the Energy Pipelines CRC the success it is. To the members of our Board, industry partners throughout the pipeline community, researchers, students and all the other people we interact with, my deep appreciation for your efforts and dedication during the year. Thanks also to the team located in Wollongong for another successful year, especially Robert, Klaas, Matt, Fari and Lyndal for another year of hard work.
I wish all of you a relaxing holiday season and a safe and prosperous 2018.
Please note that the Energy Pipelines CRC office will be closed from Friday 22nd December 2017 until Monday 8th January 2018.
