Research Opportunities

Are you interested in taking part in Energy Pipelines research?

The valuable research of the Energy Pipelines CRC is undertaken by groups of researchers at the University of Adelaide, Deakin University, the University of Wollongong and RMIT University. The Energy Pipelines CRC offers a number of ways in which you can be involved.

Undergraduate students: The Energy Pipelines CRC supports students through vacation scholarships, short term contracts and Honours/final year projects. The first two options allow students to work on an Energy Pipelines CRC related project for a short period of time. Honours/final year projects allow students to work on a topic of interest to the Energy Pipelines CRC in tandem with their final year of study and these projects normally form part of the student’s undergraduate degree. All of these opportunities allow the student to get some experience of research and to find out more about pipelines. From this experience the student can progress to a more extended research project either through an Honours/final year project or a Masters or PhD degree.

Higher degree by research students: The Energy Pipelines CRC offers opportunities for researchers to undertake work leading to a Masters (by research) or PhD award across a range of pipeline related topics. Prospective research students have to meet the eligibility requirements of the University where the project is being hosted and are expected to be located at that University. Some scholarships are available.

Post doctoral researchers/research fellows: Much of the research of the Energy Pipelines CRC is undertaken by post doctoral researchers or research fellows at Universities associated with the CRC. These positions are normally advertised by the relevant University and range from short term positions to multiyear contracts. Applicants will be expected to have relevant research background/expertise and meet the selection criteria set by that University.

Industry advisor: Employees of member companies of the APGA Research and Standards Committee can become members of one or more research project team. Industry advisors are there to guide, assist and work with the researchers to make sure that the project achieves its objectives and delivers the outputs on time. An industry advisor benefits from the opportunity to be involved in the work, to learn from the researchers and to help steer the project work. The extent to which an industry advisor is involved is up to the individual and can range from just a few hours to several days a year.

Industry secondee: Industry personnel who wish to become more involved in the research work can take on the role of secondee to a project. A secondee is someone who works closely with the researchers on a project, contributing significantly to the work of the project in such a way that both the secondee and the researchers benefit from the interaction.

If you are interested in the researcher or industry personnel opportunities, please contact the Energy Pipelines Research and Innovation Manager Klaas van Alphen.
